Nezha is predominantly considered a male deity. Although Nezha is often depicted as a child with a somewhat feminine appearance, particularly with his hairstyle and attire, the mythological figure is male. Some might mistake Nezha for a girl due to his youthful look, slim body, and certain adornments like ribbons and a hoop, which are often associated with female figures in Western cultures. Historically, in Chinese culture, Nezha's outfit is more commonly worn by girls and female deities, which can contribute to the confusion. Nezha is not inherently a demon, but he is sometimes referred to as a demon due to aspects of his origin and early behavior. In the classic novel Investiture of the Gods, Nezha was born from a ball of flesh, which led some to believe he was a monster. Also, immediately after birth, he exhibited demonic traits, such as destroying the town, but was subdued by a ring placed around his neck. His mischievous and rebellious nature, coupled with immense power, also contributes to this perception. However, he ultimately sacrifices himself to atone for his actions and is later reborn as a deity, fighting for good. Therefore, while he has demonic associations, he evolves into a protector and deity, with a blend of youthful vigor, divine power, and warrior readiness.
Sun Wukong would likely win in a straightforward fight due to his combination of strength, versatility, and near-immortality. Wukong's strength and agility are superior, and he can lift mountains. He has mastery of magic and trickery, and his magical staff, the Ruyi Jingu Bang, can change size, making it a versatile weapon. He also possesses 72 Earthly Transformations, allowing him to change into virtually anything, and can clone himself. Moreover, Wukong is virtually indestructible after consuming the Peaches of Immortality and the Jade Emperor's Elixir.

Nezha wasn't killed by another person, but rather he sacrificed himself. To atone for killing Ao Bing (the Dragon King's son) and a water general named Li Gen, and to prevent the Dragon King of the East Sea from flooding Chentang Pass, Nezha disemboweled himself. He "returned" his flesh and bones to his parents to save his family and the people from the Dragon King's wrath. However, his spirit lived on, and he was later resurrected by his teacher, Taiyi Zhenren, with a new body made of lotus flowers.
